Introduction to Dreamweaver

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to Adobe Dreamweaver. By building a small web site (less than 10 pages), participants will gain familiarity with the program's workspace, and how to make web pages, insert images, make navigation links between site pages, and link to external web sites. Using Google for Academic Research Master the secrets of power searching. Sharpen your search skills to remove the clutter and quickly locate quality resources using Google, Google Scholar, and Google Books. Learn how to use Find It and RefWorks with Google Scholar. Also learn how to evaluate your search results and get the best information from your Internet searches. TEB Windows Lab, 348
Tuesday, Oct 6, Noon-1:30pm Endnote Covers the basic features of using EndNote, including organization of records, importing records electronically from MadCat, journal article databases and Internet pages, and the preparation of bibliographies using a word processor. TEB Windows Lab, 348
Friday October 23, 2:00-4:00pm Introduction to PASW (formerly SPSS) The purposes of this workshop are to familiarize participants with the PASW workspace and to do a basic data analysis. First we will prepare the data for analysis by using the PASW Data Editor to label its variables. Then we will choose analyses from menus to summarize the data and to describe relationships. Finally, a report of the output will be prepared in the the viewer and exported for publishing on the Web. TEB Windows Lab, 348
Tuesday, Nov 17, 2:30-4:30pm Disrupting Technologies:  Exploring New Applications for
Teachers in the Classroom, with guest Seann Dikkers
Technology is changing the way we learn, and more importantly what we need to learn in a world saturated with new technologies.  We review the ‘new’ learning, explore some of the ideas from Clayton Christensen's book Disrupting Class, and discuss how schools and educational systems are responding to technology change.  Workshop includes a "speed review" of software applications for productivity, cloud computing, classroom
projects, and creativity design.  You will walk away with new tools you can use tomorrow to amplify what you do.

Introduction to the GIMP

The GNU Image Manipulation Program or GIMP is an open source tool for making and editing bitmapped images. It can be used to touch up photos, create graphics, and other activities done with commercial programs like Adobe Photoshop. In this workshop we will explore the GIMP's tools to make and modify graphics and photos. TEB Mac Lab, 356

School of Education faculty, staff and students, and area teachers are invited to participate in MERIT's Media, Information Literacy, and Technology Integration workshops. In addition to scheduled workshops, sessions can be designed or adapted as course-integrated instruction for specific classes, or scheduled as consultation for individuals, meetings, or groups.
