Online Tools for Teaching

Learn@UW ( logon )

Learn@UW supports online discussions, web-based course content, chat, and online assessment. Class members access LearnUW by logging in with a NetID. Instructional support available from CIMC staff or DOIT.

Moodle login

Moodle supports online instruction for courses and programs at the UW-Madison School of Education. A secondary purpose is to compare Moodle to other course management systems (CMS) like Blackboard, Desire2Learn, and WebCT.

Mailing Lists (  request a list  )

Email lists support discussion. Using a single email address, someone can send a message to all members of a group and a reply would again be sent to all members. Any Internet email client (for example, Novell GroupWise, Pegasus Mail, Qualcomm Eudora, etc.) can be used to participate in a mailing list.

Streamed Media (  request a site  )

Streamed media includes audio, video, and animated presentations that require very little waiting before being viewed. Generally one waits 10 seconds before the audio and video plays. People view the media using a web browser and a player. Web page links can lead to a live webcast or an archive, that is, a live broadcast or pre-existing file. Content can be a live presentation or existing tapes and digitals files converted into streamed media.

WebBoard

Retired as of September 2008.

Web Sites (    request a site   )

Web sites are special accounts and associated networked space where individuals and groups can publish web pages. They resemble other networked spaces one may have used except the documents can be viewed by web browsers like Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

My Web Space

Watch for more information coming soon outlining CIMC support for using My Web Space. My Web Space, supported by DOIT, provides 100 megabytes of web storage to students, faculty, and staff.
