New Digital Voice Recorders Now Available
The CIMC has acquired eight new digital voice recorders that are now circulating. They are Olympus WS-110 models, and work with both windows and Macintosh computers. Digital voice recorders are a great option for those looking to do a quick audio recording or interview. The voice recorders come with software installed on the device, so there is no need to download or install additional software. Keep in mind that the CIMC also circulates a digital transcription kit as well. CIMC equipment circulates to all students, staff and faculty currently enrolled in or working for a School of Education course, department or unit. If you have any questions, or would like to reserve one of these recorders please call the circulation desk: 608-263-4750 or email cimccirc@educaiton.wisc.edu.

Reference Collection to Circulate
In an effort to provide users better access to information, the CIMC will soon be circulating the books in its Reference Collection. Because the CIMC's Reference Collection contains a number of titles only available in print, this is just another step towards providing our users with better access to these valuable works. Reference Collection titles will have a 1 day loan period - allowing users to read, copy or scan the items outside of the CIMC.
Some processing of the books will be required before they can be checked out, so watch the News for more details this summer.

Summer Displays for June
Did you know that a mosquito's wings beat about 500 times in one second? This is true, according to Kunkel and Siy in their unique picture book titled, "Mosquito Bite." Insects, including mosquitoes, are fascinating when studied closely. This month we will display CIMC materials for young entomologists. From field-guides to fictional stories, these materials will offer ideas for exploring the insects thriving in your own back yard--or buzzing in your ear.
June 15th is Father's Day and we have father-inspired books on display. All of these books are available for checkout.

New Resources at UW Digital Collections
UW Digital Collections provides online curriculum resources forr faculty, staff, students and area teachers. New Spring resources include:
NEW COLLECTION
The Aldo Leopold Archives
7 issues, 7,516 pages, added 3/4/2008 and 5/6/2008
Aldo Leopold is considered by many to have been the most influential conservation thinker of the 20th Century. Leopold's legacy spans the disciplines of forestry, wildlife management, conservation biology, sustainable agriculture, restoration ecology, private land management, environmental history, literature, education, esthetics, and ethics. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), the Aldo Leopold Archive houses the raw materials that document not only Leopold's rise to prominence but the history of conservation and the emergence of the field of ecology from the early 1900s until his death in 1948. Content will be added throughout the year.
AFRICA FOCUS
Harold Scheub's Images from South Africa
162 images, added 3/17/2008
Harold Scheub, author of The Poem in the Story, The Tongue Is Fire and The African Storyteller, is one of the world's leading scholars of African folktales. This image collection contains photographs from Scheub's trips to Africa, especially Southern Africa, in 1967/68 and 1972. Images show many of the storytellers Scheub has written about and documented in his previous works.
ARTS COLLECTION
Artists' Books
72 images, added 5/6/2008
This database is an illustrated, descriptive index to the Artists' Book Collection, located in the Kohler Art Library, University of Wisconsin-Madison. The artists' books are finely crafted and visually stimulating works made by more than 150 presses and artists worldwide. They comprise limited edition, one-of-a-kind, and offset books,
representative of major book artists working during the past thirty years, including many who trained in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Art Department. The Artists' Books digital collection is intended to
create a "visual finding aid" to the entire Artists' Book Collection.
ECOLOGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES
Fishes of Wisconsin
1 volume, 1,065 pages, added 3/17/2008
This single volume, published by the University of Wisconsin Press, represents an unmatched reference guide for those interested in species of fish in Wisconsin as well as fish that have been displaced from the state. With hundreds of photographs and drawings as well as comprehensive statistical data, Fishes of Wisconsin is a valuable tool for researchers, professionals and fishing enthusiasts.
DECORATIVE ARTS AND MATERIAL CULTURE
American Medical Botany
3 issues, 766 pages, added 5/6/2008
As debatably the first American botanical book (in a close tie with William Barton's "Vegetable Materia Medica"), this title is of interest to historians of science. It is also of interest in the decorative arts and material culture since the work represents the state of early American book illustration. It not only provides color illustrations of
the specimens to aid in plant identification, it is innovative as the first book containing illustrations printed in color. Prior books were customarily hand-colored after printing in a secondary process. As a "first" on many levels, this online book should be of value to researchers across multiple disciplines.
Bowles's Florist: containing sixty plates of beautiful flowers...
1 issue, 152 pages, added 5/6/2008
Carrington Bowles (1724-1793) belonged to a prominent dynasty of London print and map dealers whose publications ranged from artist instruction manuals to coach fare guidebooks, with illustrations ranging from maps
and topographic engravings to portraits and political cartoons. This small volume, hand-colored and ornately bound with gilt edges, intended for the "amusement of gentlemen and ladies," exemplifies the refined taste of 1777 London.
HISTORY COLLECTION
Public Libraries of the United States
1 issue, 1,250 pages, added
Prepared by Samuel R. Warren, this report details the history and state of all types of libraries in the country.
