December 2007
Tis the holiday season ...
...and time to celebrate this special month of December by displaying CIMC collection items that spotlight holidays, festivals, and celebrations held world-wide. Some of these resources will include suggestions for hands-on activities and projects to help students increase their knowledge and understanding of these multicultural observances.
For those UW-Madison winter enthusiasts who can’t wait for the first snowflake to fall, the CIMC has a great collection of resources that will add to your excitement. Our Let it snow...Let it snow...Let it snow! display will feature just a sampling of the many items in the CIMC PreK-12 collection that incorporate the word “snow” in their title!
Digital media are changing the way people think, learn, and relate to one another --- and interactive media environments, such as video games, are at the forefront of this push toward an interactive and participatory culture. With the realization that gaming and simulations are changing the way we think and learn (both in and out of schools), the subject of a third display coming in December will feature CIMC collection items that focus on examining this connection between games, learning, and literacy.
Happy holidays to all of you from all of us at the CIMC!

Thanks to our Graduating Students
Two of the CIMC's most beloved staff members will be leaving the CIMC after they graduate at the end of December. Pat Eschmann, who has been ably assisting patrons and other staff members for the past year and a half from our reference desk, will be graduating with a Masters in Library Science. We will miss her sincerity and initiative, her love of assisting everyone, and we will all miss her wonderfully creative and ever-changing displays. Also leaving the CIMC after numerous years of outgoing, oustanding and enthusiatic work is Dana Schwabenlander. Dana will be graduating with a degree in elementary education. We will all feel the void - as she has been a spectacular student supervisor at the circulation desk.
