"The artist is an educator of artists of the future." - Saul Steinberg
Andy Warhol, Grandma Moses, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mary Cassatt, Edward Hopper, Benjamin West, Charles Willson Peale ... are just a few of the American artists featured in this month’s CIMC display celebrating “American Artists Appreciation Month.” Along with this visual salute to famous American creators, a second August display will focus on the School of Education’s Art and Art Education Departments, presenting CIMC collection items of interest to students in this field of study.
This month also finds CIMC staff looking forward to welcoming students back for the fall semester and one expression of that excitement will be a “Welcome Back!" display highlighting the variety of resources and services that the CIMC offers School of Education students, faculty, and staff.

2008 Journal Cancellations and New Subscriptions
The CIMC is evaluating current journal subscriptions to determine which to renew in January 2008. Academic journal subscriptions typically have risen 9% to 10% annually in recent years and that trend is expected in 2008 as well. In the new fiscal year, the CIMC’s journals budget will remain somewhat static. However, as the number of electronic journals available campus-wide increases and underused titles are canceled, we may use savings from those cancellations to fund a limited number of new subscriptions.
If you want to suggest subscribing to journals which the CIMC does not currently receive, please send the title, publisher name (or other publication information you may know), and the academic program(s) the title would support to Vince Jenkins at vjenkins@education.wisc.edu. In selecting new subscriptions, CIMC staff will carefully consider cost, content, publication frequency, availability within the UW System, applicability in support of the missions of the CIMC and the School of Education, available modes of access (print and/or electronic), and any other helpful criteria.
Thanks for helping the CIMC build collections that are useful to you and your students!

New Laptops Arrive at the CIMC
This summer new Macintosh and Windows laptops were added to the CIMC circulating equipment. Ten of the new laptops are Apple MacBooks. These have 13" LCD monitors, duel-core processors running at 2 GHz, 1 GB of working memory, and 75 GB hard drives. The ten Windows laptops are Dell Latitude D620's. The Dell laptops are similar to the Apples, except the screen is an inch larger, the processor is slightly slower (1.83 vs 2.0 GHz), and working memory is smaller (.5 vs 1 GB). Both sets of laptops have DVD writers to burn optical discs. To check out these new laptops, ask at the Circulation Desk.
