New Equipment: Cameras and Binding Machine

The CIMC has lots of new equipment ready to be checked-out for the fall semester. We have 10 new MiniDV Camcorders, 10 new 5 megapixel digital cameras and 15 new microphones (great for use with the camcorders!). To provide a special touch to papers and other publications, the CIMC has a brand new binder - which can put a reuseable spiral binding and clear covers - on your prestigous projects. Any questions on our new equipment can be directed to our circulation staff - 608-263-4750 or cimccirc@education.wisc.edu.

MadCat Highlights Quality Websites

Records Added to MadCat for Electronic Resources

Web sites recently cataloged in MadCat by the CIMC include BadgerLink, the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction's portal for distance education; and the Library Statistics Program, which includes surveys on academic, public, state library agencies, and school media centers.

Even though web sites are searchable on the World Wide Web using popular search software, the CIMC identifies and catalogs selected sites to provide users with additional specific, subject-related access to them. Suggestions are welcomed for education-related web sites to add to our catalog. Please contact Vince Jenkins (vjenkins@education.wisc.edu) if you have sites to recommend.

Oversize PK-12 Materials Shelved Separately

The CIMC's PK-12 stacks have been rearranged in order to make it easier to find resources intended for use in Pre Kindergarten through grade twelve classrooms. In addition to reviewing removing outdated formats and materials, the CIMC has also established an oversize shelving section for any kits or other materials over 14 inches in height. These materials are now shelved in the last three stacks of the PK-12 stacks and will be indicated in MadCat as "PreK-12 Oversize Stacks'. Comments on this change should be directed to carr@education.wisc.edu.

The PreK-12 collection includes materials for preschool, kindergarten, elementary and secondary education. Textbooks, handbooks of classroom activities, sound recordings, educational kits and games, videotapes and compter files are intershelved according to subject area, along with juvenile fiction, non-fiction trade books, and other items that are representative of materials found in a school library media center. The textbooks (LT) have limited circulation.

Citations Required for Electronic Reserves

In order to comply with requirements of fair use of copyright-protected materials, the campus-wide electronic reserves policy now requires complete citations for items placed on e-reserves. Please provide the author & title of the book/journal, copyright date and copyright holder. For books, you can simply photocopy the title page and (usually) the back of the title page, which gives the copyright information. Many journals already have this information printed directly on the journal articles, but if they do not, please provide it. If you need assistance in identifying the citation for these materials, please ask Peter Cupery or other CIMC reference staff for assistance. The revised policy is available at http://www.library.wisc.edu/reserves/copyright.htm.
