Wisconsin History on Your Desktop

The Wisconsin Historical Society invites Wisconsin students, teachers, and parents are invited to vote online to determine the most important events in our state’s history at www.wisconsinhistory.org/turningpoints. Your votes will help guide the WHS in developing a digital of resources for use by educators, museums, libraries, and the general public. This project is similar to the “American Journeys” site that provides eyewitness accounts of early American exploration, including 20 from Wisconsin, as well as a vast collection of images.

Digital resources that are a part of the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections extend the resources of UW System libraries to the citizens of the state. Among the resources of this collection are:
Milwaukee Neighborhoods: Photos and Maps, 1885-1992 http://www.uwm.edu/Library/digilib/Milwaukee/index.html
This collection of 638 photos and maps from Milwaukee neighborhoods was developed as part of UW-Milwaukee’s Digital Library and is searchable by neighborhoods, subjects, businesses and keyword.

Belgian-American Research Collection

Developed by U.W. Green Bay, this collection documents the Walloon speaking Belgians who settled in Northeastern Wisconsin in the mid 1850’s.

Displays in May and June

May is Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. A display featuring literature and other materials celebrates the rich and colorful culture of Asian and Pacific Americans in the United States. Our accompanying webliography of Internet sites is available at http://cimc.education.wisc.edu/ed_info/webliographies/asian_american.html

May also brings stress from end-of-the-semester papers, projects, and exams. So, we've created a display with materials to help students and faculty with Stress Prevention.

June is Gay & Lesbian Pride Month, and the CIMC will display books about gays and lesbians in our collection as well as materials relating to the issue of homosexuality in education.

Gift Enhance CIMC Collection

Emeritus Professors Thomas Carpenter, Elizabeth Fennema, and Thomas Romberg will continue to contribute to the education of future School of Education students through their generous funding of four journal titles in mathematics education. They have designated the use of a portion of their UW Foundation account for the purchase of Educational Studies in Mathematics, Mathematical Thinking and Learning, The Journal of Mathematical Behavior and Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education. The CIMC will house these titles.

The CIMC collection has also been strengthened with the assistance of the Oregon Public Schools. Following the review and adoption of new reading series, Oregon Public Schools Reading and Language Arts Coordinator, Judy Chilson, arranged to donate the sample textbook series included in the review to the CIMC.
