Using MadCat to Locate Tests and Measurements
The CIMC owns hundreds of educational and psychological tests. To find these tests, search MadCat. First, limit your search to the CIMC by clicking on the 'Set More Limits' button. In the Location menu, click on CIMC, then click the 'Set More Limits' button to return to a search screen. Using the 'Guided' search option, you can search by title, author, keyword, or subject. For example, to search by subject, select Subject from the 'Search By:' menu, and enter one of the subjects below in the 'Search For:' field. Be sure that 'as a phrase' is selected in the menu to the right.
Some subject headings to try are:
child development testing
personality tests
preschool tests
psychological tests
psychological tests for children
mathematical ability testing
readiness for school ability testing
spelling ability testing
You can also limit a particular topic to tests and measurements by using the terms "examinations specimens." For example, in a Guided search, enter "reading examinations specimens", choosing 'all of these' from the drop-down menu to the right and 'Subject ' from the 'Search By:' menu.
CIMC tests are located in three different locations: the ETS Tests in Microfiche (3rd floor), the Professional stacks (4th floor), and the Restricted Collection. Tests located in the professional stacks may be checked out by any patron with a UW ID, courtesy card or deposit card.
Restricted collection tests require special permission to view or check out. More information and special permission forms can be obtained at the CIMC Reference desk or you may download and print the Restricted Test Authorization Form. These forms must be filled out and signed by either a School of Education faculty member or a State of Wisconsin licensed psychologist or psychiatrist on the University faculty. See a reference librarian for details.
