Position Vacancy
The Center for Instructional Materials and Computing (CIMC) seeks a service-oriented, energetic, early-career librarian to work in our Reference and Technical Services Departments. The Reference and Technical Services Intern will have the opportunity to develop their skills by providing patron-centered service at the reference desk and cataloging library materials in all formats under the guidance of the CIMC's professional staff.

Position Summary
The Research Intern has the responsibility for providing reference services, technical services and maintaining or developing resources that support or highlight the CIMC’s information services. The Research Intern will also act as a resource for Technical Services and Reference Services student staff and perform some collection management duties. In addition, the intern will work to embody a strong, proactive patron service ethic.
Specific activities and tasks related to the job description include:

Staff the CIMC’s Reference Desk (50%)

Provide reference service to School of Education students, faculty and staff as well as other users from the broader campus and the public in all established modes of communication (in-person, phone, email, IM/chat)

Develop new resource guides

Assist in the maintenance of the Research Help section of the CIMC web site

Develop displays around collections, events, seasons or other themes
-
Catalog library materials in all formats as assigned (30%)
-
Catalog Rush, Reference and Reserve items in a timely manner
-
Catalog non-DLC materials, AV materials and electronic resources
-
Assist with special projects, database maintenance, etc. as needed

Collection Management (10%)
-
Coordinate CIMC collection development in assigned subject areas

Develop relationships with School of Education students, faculty and staff to inform collection decisions

Participate in professional development an library services planning (10%)
-
Attend and report at bi-monthly CIMC Staff Meetings and campus committee meetings

Participate in the annual planning process
-
Attend job-related conferences
-
Present at conferences when applicable
-
Read job-related literature
Eligibility
Candidates must be new graduates (within the last 18 months) of an ALA-accredited institution and may not have worked elsewhere as a professional librarian.
Required Experience
-
An MA or MLS in Library and Information Studies earned in 2007 or 2008
-
A strong commitment to public service
-
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills combined with attention to detail
-
Strong technology skills and aptitude
-
Experience using Electronic Resources to provide reference services
Desired Experience
-
Experience with education-related databases including ERIC and Education Full Text
-
Demonstrated understanding of campus document delivery services (Library Express, Universal Borrowing and Book Delivery)
-
Copy cataloging experience including use of the OCLC Cataloging Module

Basic knowledge of authority control
-
Background in teacher education
Position Information
Starting annual salary is $28,030

This position is a one year full-time appointment with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years

Some work on nights and weekends will be required
